Kathryn was born in Fort Worth to James (Jim) and Jolene Mershon on October 1, 1962. She graduated from Eastern Hills High School and the University of Texas, Arlington with a degree in Photojournalism. She was working as an accountant for GoodGuys at the time of her death. She was very active with Johnson County Animal Rescue and had fostered many dogs and cats over her lifetime. She had a great love of all animals. Kathy was an excellent photographer and also a skilled marksman. She and her Dad competed in shooting competitions as partners.
She was very good mechanically and with all tools. In middle school, she fought to get in Woodworking class, which was for boys only. She ended up being the teacher’s pet because she was so good at the wood projects, and she also helped keep the classroom swept up and clean. She loved her brother and sister but would play a practical joke on them any chance she got. Kathy loved hunting for antiques, baking, bee keeping and gardening. She also enjoyed sewing, a pastime she shared with her mother. She loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her grandparents, Brown C. and Julia Welch and James and Ruth Mershon. She was also predeceased by her favorite fur babies, Abby, Amos-Earl, Rosie, Willa, Sammie Jo and Missy.
Kathryn is survived by her parents Jim and Jolene Mershon, her brother James Mershon and wife Tonya, sister, Cris Ratliff, nephews Cameron Ratliff, Quintin Ratliff and nieces Madison Ratliff and Misti Reed and husband Greg. She is also survived by five cats that she rescued and dearly loved and cared for. Three of these kitties were from a litter of six she bottled fed when the mama cat disappeared after having the kittens on Kathy’s patio.
