On July 14, 1954, she was born to Jerry and Barbara Tarter in Fort Worth, Texas. Karen enjoyed dancing which she started at the age of 3. After graduating from Everman High School, she taught dance for 8 years until marrying Jim Hicks in 1977.
Everyone that knew Karen, knew that she was a feisty, passionate God-fearing woman. She never was one to shy away from a challenge or a fight for what she believed in. As a mother she was always there for Jimmie and Justin as their confidant and teacher. During her free time, she enjoyed reading books on her Christian faith and history, playing Game of Thrones, knitting, listening to music and entertaining family and friends. She went out of her way to comfort and protect the ones she loved. She loved traveling to the beach to snorkel & skiing in the mountains. She loved her family dearly and nothing brought her more joy in life than spending time with them.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jerry and Barbara Tarter and her brother David Tarter.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Jim of Granbury Tx, children, Jimmie and his wife Laura, their children Trey and Nate of Mansfield Tx, Justin and his wife Amanda and their children Braiden, Logan and Amelia of Argyle Tx. As well as her sister Kay Dunagan and husband Denis of Fort Worth Tx; nieces Michelle Hoffman, and husband John and Loryn of Spring Hill Tn, and Melissa Dunagan of Columbus, Oh.
Due to restrictions/limitations on seating at this time there is no Memorial Service planned.
