Life Reflections
Jimmy Lynn Hawkins (HAWK), Sr. was born on October 4, 1947 in Pittsburg, Texas to the proud parent of Vernell Hawkins-Diamond. The HAWK took his last flight January 15, 2022 at his residence in Fort Worth, TX.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Vernell Hawkins-Diamond, (mother) and Ruey Diamond (step-father), Ricky Diamond (brother), Christine Jones (grandmother) and Algaree Jackson (aunt).
Jimmy’s educational experiences include attending Frederick Douglas High School for grades 1st through 8th and grades 9th through 12th where he earned his high school diploma in 1966. He was also a member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church. There he sang in the choir and received accolades by church and choir members for having a beautiful bass/baritone voice quality. This later led to his becoming a member of the Frederick Douglas High School choir. Jimmy was also chosen to participate in the Frederick Douglas Octet (a musical group of eight) in the years 1963 through 1965 under the direction of Mr. Richard Mason. During this period they won the District competition and went on to win the State Championship Competition at Prairie View A&M University.
Having an exceptional voice was not enough for HAWK because he was also an outstanding football quarterback for the Mighty Panthers at Frederick Douglas High School his Jr. and Sr. year. In addition, he was a star player on the Panther basketball team.
After graduation he moved to Fort Worth and attended the 1st Class of El Centro College in Dallas, Texas in the fall of 1966.
Jimmy enjoyed watching football (The Dallas Cowboys was his favorite team but only when they were winning); basketball (Lakers), listening to music, dancing, Casinos, horse races, talking smack with his many friends, hanging out at Lloyd’s, and spending quality time with his family and closest friends.
Jimmy was a very dedicated employee and worked for 45 years at Miller Coors as a SRC Room Operator; he retired January 5, 2022. He is survived by proud and loving family members: daughter and son, LaTisha Hawkins (Justin Hall) of Fort Worth, TX; Jimmy Hawkins, Jr. (Shannon) of Fort Worth, TX; Carolyn Hawkins, (former wife of 38 years) of Fort Worth, TX; son, Kelvin Hughes of Pittsburg, TX; daughter, Misty Hawkins of Pittsburg, TX, and their mother, Seletha Hughes of Pittsburg, TX; brother, Dwayne Diamond (Agatha) of Fort Worth, TX; and brother, Rev.
