The sun rose for James Tex Richard on February 26, 1932. He was one of 17 children born to the late George Richard, Sr. and Edna Harrington Richard of Kennard, TX. He confessed Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age under the pastoral leadership of Rev. J.S. Walker at the New Hope Baptist Church in Kennard, TX. He graduated from Kennard Colored High School in Crocket, TX. After graduating high school, he attended Mary Allen College in Crockett, TX. While in college, he met the love of his life, Velma L. Hill.
The loving couple were wedded in holy matrimony on July 22, 1954. From their union, three boys were born. Shortly after their marriage, James proudly served in the U.S. Army. After his service in the Army, he began his civilian career at Superior Meat Company for 10 years. Then he changed careers. For the next 30 years, he worked at American General Life Insurance Company. After retiring, he worked for the Fort Worth Independent School District as a substitute teacher. He retired a second time in 2013 to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
Prior to his 13 years of membership at Beth Eden Baptist Church, James was a dedicated member of Strangers Rest Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. During his 49 years at Strangers Rest, he sang in the male chorus, served as a deacon, served as the Superintendent of Sunday School and served as the Chairman of Trustees.
He went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 20, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Edna Richard, his eleven brothers and one sister.
