Genni Gray LaPlante was born on September 21, 1952 in Cleburne, Texas to Jim and Rabbit Gray and passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Genni was raised in North Texas with her older sister Bunny, younger sister Dianna and younger brother Rodney, before graduating from Richland High School in 1971. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Texas Woman’s University in 1975 and then a Master’s in Education Administration and Supervision in 1979. Genni married Don LaPlante, a fireman, on August 6, 1977. After graduating from college, Genni began a career in Birdville ISD as a beloved teacher. Her most significant role began when her son Lance was born in 1980, followed by daughter Laci in 1982 and son Lyndon in 1986. Genni was a true “Mama Bear,” lovingly nurturing her own children while serving as an ally and advocate for kids of all ages, needs and abilities. Genni helped pave the way for Lyndon’s educational journey, eventually becoming a respected Special Education
Administrator in Keller ISD for many years, before her retirement in 2006. Retirement allowed Genni some of her most precious years as “Biggie” to her 5 grandchildren. Genni was a confident believer in Christ, and will be remembered for her loving heart and giving spirit.
Genni is preceded in death by her parents Jim and Rabbit Gray, and was joined in Heaven just three days later by her sister Bunny. Genni is survived by her husband, Don of 43 years; son Lance LaPlante and wife Amy; daughter Laci Bond and husband Jake; and son Lyndon LaPlante; as well as 5 treasured grandchildren; Avery LaPlante, Bryant Bond, Emersyn LaPlante, Bentley Bond and Camden LaPlante. Also surviving are Genni’s sister, Dianna Darden; brother Rodney Gray, and several nieces and nephews.
