Clare Mae Cameron, age 100, of Fort Worth, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 21, 1918, at Manchester, Oklahoma, to Charles Walter and Jennie Irene (Hogan) Long. The eldest of the five Long Siblings, she lived in several small towns in Oklahoma, finally settling in Garber.
Clare Mae attended Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) where she met and later married Albert Perry Cameron, Jr., of Tulsa. World War II led them to the Washington, D.C., area where she worked at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Their first child Albert Perry Cameron, III, was born in 1943 in D.C. After the war concluded, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, and then to Fort Worth, Texas, where a second son, Mark, was born in 1952. Clare Mae was a housewife, raising the two boys until divorced in 1970, whereupon she reentered the workplace as a surgical service secretary at the VA Hospital in Dallas for 17 years, retiring in 1988 at age 70. She was active in her church, book club, and P.E.O. Chapters ER and CH.
She is survived by her children, Albert and Mark (Carol) Cameron of Fort Worth and Arlington, respectively; two loving grandchildren, Timothy Charles Cameron and Erin Hart (Jeffrey) Peters; three
amazing grandchildren, Robert Drew Huffman, Katherine Clare Cameron and Jake Hiram Cameron, all of Arlington, as well as her younger sister Bettye Jeanne Long Calmes of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her ex-husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Russell Lee Long, Halsey Hogan Long and Charles William Long.
Visitation will take place Friday, June 8, from 6-8 pm at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home with funeral service on Saturday, June 9, at 2:30 pm, at Shannon Rose Hill.
