The family will receive friends during visitation on Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 10am to 12pm at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel. A Graveside Committal Service will follow at 2:30p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, Texas.
Charles was born in Lewisville, Texas to parents Finis C. Mecaskey and Ina Mae Martin Mecaskey on December 24, 1924. Their family moved to the Decatur area soon after, where he grew up. Charles proudly served his country from 1944 to 1946 in the United States Navy.
He met his beloved wife, Imogene Simmons, at a young age on a double blind date. Though they were not on a date with one another, Charles knew that Imogene was truly who he wanted to be with, and so their love story began. They married June 3, 1947 and welcomed daughters, Charlotte and Cheryl.
Charles had a strong work ethic that showed from an early age, and worked as an employee of Armors, the US Postal Service, and various others, before starting a longtime career at General Motors in Arlington, Texas in 1954, and retiring in August 1984 after 30 years of dedication.
Charles, who always had a desire for advancement, then obtained his real estate license and began his own business, CIM Builders Inc., as a custom home builder in 1984. His goal of achieving perfection showed day to day in his building projects until his retirement in 1990. His integrity, honesty, and no non-sense way of handling business showed in what he offered his customers.
In his down time, Charles could be found enjoying some time fishing and hunting, or enjoying some time watching NASCAR races or wrestling. He most particularly enjoyed traveling with his family, and had been to many beautiful locations around the world with his beloved wife.
Most importantly, Charles was a man of faith. He was a longtime member of St. Phillip Presbyterian Church. He was always generous with his time in organizations that were meaningful. Charles was a proud Mason for more than 63 years, and also joined the Moslah Shrine as a founding member in the Car-Vettes Unit, and the Fort Worth Scottish Rite as a charter member.
Charles, a devoted husband, loving father, and caring grandfather and friend will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish Charles memory is his wife of 73 years, Imogene Simmons Mecaskey; brother, Jerry Mecaskey; daughters, Charlotte Netherey and husband, Michael, and Cheryl Embry and husband, Joel, and granddaughter Patricia Embry; grandson Gasten Schoonover, wife, Carolyn, and one great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Finis and Ina Mae Mecaskey and his brother Jimmy.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Gifts may be made in Charles' honor to the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital of Dallas.
