Rosary will begin at 9:00 am Saturday October 8, 2022 at St. Rita Catholic Church 5550 E. Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth, TX. 76112 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Father Richard Flores officiating.
Inurnment will follow at 3:00pm Saturday October 8, 2022 at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery.
Charlene Grace Hymel was born in El Paso, TX to Norman and Joyce Edwards on November 5, 1949. She married Clyde Hymel on August 30, 1969, in El Paso, Texas. She graduated from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX with her Bachelors of Education degree. and received her Masters in Education from the University of North Texas.
She began her career in Windthorst, TX. The family moved to Fort Worth, TX, in 1986 where she worked for the Fort Worth ISD as an English Teacher, an Instructional Support Specialist and Vice Principal at Forest Oak and Rosemont Middle Schools during the 1990’s. She then went on to be the Principal of St. Rita Catholic School in Fort Worth, TX. Charlene ended her career as Associate Superintendent for the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth. Charlene was always involved with the Catholic Church. In the 1980’s, before she became a teacher, she was the Director of Religious Education at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls, TX. She also taught at Notre Dame Catholic School in Wichita Falls, TX.
Together, she and her husband, Clyde, were involved in many different adventures over the years. They participated in the Foster Care system in the 70’s and early 80’s. They had a used furniture and antique store in the Handley Area for about 5 years, in which, their young grandchildren spent many hours and made many memories. Charlene and Clyde moved to Lubbock, TX after retirement to be near their young grandchildren, where Gigi was able to help them with homework, attend their sporting and school events, and be involved in their day to day lives. Charlene impacted many people throughout her life as a mentor and friend to many - including her family, her students and her colleagues.
Charlene Grace Hymel was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Joyce Edwards, and her son, Nathan Hymel.
Charlene Grace Hymel is survived by her husband of 52 years, Clyde Hymel, daughter Nancy Donald (Michael), son Norman Hymel (Amy), and sister Debra Shannon. Also missing their grandmother are Charlene’s grandchildren, Aaron Donald (Bayli), Zane Donald (Allie), Peyton Navaira, Jordyn Hymel, Hadyn Hymel, and Sophia Hymel, and all of her nieces and nephews.

The family of Charlene Hymel wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of the doctors and nurses at Baylor University Medical Center Dallas Lung and Heart Transplant Center. You allowed Charlene to be with us for an additional four wonderful years. We would not have had that special time without your excellent care and skills. We would also like to thank St. Rita Catholic Church Community for all of their love and support over the years.
