Bonnie was born December 17, 1932 to Roy and Bonnie Drinkard in Fort Worth, Texas. With the exception of 3 years that were spent in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she lived her entire life in the Fort Worth area. She graduated from Handley High school and for the rest of her life kept in touch with her childhood friends, enjoying get-togethers with the "Class of 52".
Bonnie married her high school sweetheart Raymond Kelly, and they had two daughters, Kathleen and Rebecca. She later married Rodney Opitz. They were married for over 50 years and had a son, Paul.
Bonnie was a loving, friendly, fun-loving, adventuresome and feisty. She was a travel agent and thoroughly enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. Bonnie's friends will be missing her from Australia to Japan to England to Kuwait and may places in between. She truly loved people. On more than one occasion she welcomed individuals and families in need into her home and into her family. There is not way to count how many lives she touched.
After retirement, Bonnie and Rodney travelled the U.S. in their RV and spent many happy summers in Fun Valley, Colorado. She was a Christian who truly believed that she could be reunited with her parents and her son Paul.
Bonnie joins her parents, Roy and Bonnie; her brother, Jack, her brother, Charlie, and her son, Paul in Heaven. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Clinton) and Becky (Carl); her sister, Betty; her 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Donations may be made in memory of Bonnie Jo Opitz to the Union Gospel Mission of Fort Worth.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.shannonrosehill.com for the Opitz family.
