Bobby James Lewis was born on June 18, 1931 in Fort Worth Texas to Jerry E. and Ella Mae Lewis. He was the youngest of three children. As a child growing up on the Southside of Fort Worth he attended the legendary I. M. Terrell School. After graduating from high school he went to college and received his degree in Communications where he worked for a local radio station as a disc jockey under the stage name as the "Night Owl".
There was one particular song that he would always play on the radio and tell people about him being the singer too . "I couldn't sleep at all last night, tossing and turning by the legendary singer Bobby Lewis" although it wasn't him but he loved to see peoples reactions.
After working at the radio station he decided to change careers where he landed a position as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, there he worked his way up to Supervisor where he retired with the company 33 years.
His hobbies included playing dominoes, driving around in his classic red convertible in the Como parades every year, and also he loved cooking soul food and his famous bar-b-que.
Bobby departed from his earthly vessel on Sunday morning peacefully at home August 11, 2024.
He is preceded in death by his lovely wife of 59 years Mary Ann Lewis who passed away 3 weeks prior, his parents: Jerry E. and Ella Mae Lewis, siblings: Billy Lewis, Albert Lewis, Naomi Lewis-Pinkston; (An Aunt) Jobie Holderness (OK) ; (An Uncle) Roscoe Lewis; and cousins Bobby "Boy" White (TX) and Loretha (CA)
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: 6 children Robert Lewis "Lil Bobby" (Austin TX), Richard "Dickie"Lewis (Fort Worth TX) Sharon Lewis (Fort Worth TX), Gregory Lewis (Fort Worth TX), Eric James Lewis, (Fort Worth TX) and Darla Kaye Lewis, (Fort Worth TX) ; 18 Grand-children. and multiple great-grand children and great grand children. A brother in law Reverend Derry C. Henry (Murphy TX), sister in laws Reverend Ruby Hines-Henry (Murphy TX), Dollye Alston (Pflugerville TX), Clara Kay and Joyce Holt (Hawkins TX), along with a host of nieces and nephews.
