He was a 1948 graduate of New Castle High School. William was a member of the Navy Seabee battalion in June 1947 until September in 1954.
He worked for Indiana Bell Telephone and then Ramsey Auto Sales as the parts and service manager for 29 years. Darrell was then a Regulatory Supervisor for the Indiana Department of Transportation until retirement.
Darrell was a Little League baseball coach and was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge 484 in New Castle. He enjoyed working on the genealogy of his and his wife’s family. William completed both to their European origins. He loved the outdoors and was an avid bird and wildlife watcher. When he was not out-doors he could be found in his workshop working on his next home project
Survivors include his daughters, Terrie Walker and Debbie (Denny) Howard, both of Fort Wayne, IN; a son, Tom (Stacey) Judkins of North Port, FL; grandchildren, Will (Ashley-Pitzen) Walker and Andy Walker, Josh (Alica) Howard, Becca Howard, Tim (Kelsey) Howard, Wyatt and Alyss Judkins; great-grandchildren, Zeke, Beny and Juniper Howard, Bjorn Wightman and half-sister Cheryl Judkins.
He was predeceased by his wife Peggy, of 56 years; his father William Meryel Judkins, his mother Grace Spurrier McDaniels, a half-brother, Mike Judkins and a grandson Tommy Judkins.
He will be remembered most as a faithful and loving husband and father who put his family before himself in all he did.
A visitation will be on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Home- Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Road Fort Wayne, IN 46815, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow at Leo Cemetery.
