VIRGINIA C. McKENZIE, 87, of Fort Wayne, died on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital. Born July 22, 1923, in Lafayette, she was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She had been a secretary for the Fort Wayne - South Bend Diocese here in Fort Wayne. She was a member of Franciscan sisters of the Sacred Heart Association; volunteered for various organizations; and received the Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service. Surviving are her daughters, Therese "Terry' (Paul) Meyers of Angola, Mary O. Morrow (Michael Wills) of Springfield, Mo. and Patricia L. McKenzie (companion, Sarah M. Valencino) of Katy, Texas; sons, Matthew E. (Mari Anna) McKenzie of Naperville, Ill. and Thomas J. (Molly) McKenzie of Lisle, Ill; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, John Shaffer of Gladwin, Mich. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E., in 1992. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on the corner of Reed and Trier Roads, with calling one hour prior. Monsignor John Suelzer officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, with rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Preferred memorials to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
