Ruth H. Maki, 81, of Huntertown, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital. Born on March 17, 1936 in Escanaba, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Elsie (Eggert) Hansen. Ruth graduated from Escanaba High School and earned a Master Degree in Education from St. Francis College. She was a teacher at Woodburn Elementary School for over 30 years, from which she retired. An avid cyclist, she also enjoyed sewing, baking, and traveling. She is survived by her sons, Timothy Maki of Huntertown and Erland J. (Jacqueline) Maki of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Nicole Maki and Samantha (Jon) Sturges, both of Fort Wayne; and great-granddaughter, Clara Ruth Sturges. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Elmer Erland Maki; and sisters, Marby Borth and Ila Peltier. Memorial Service for both Ruth H. Maki and her late husband, E. Erland Maki (July 18, 1933 – March 21, 2015), will be at 3:00pm on June 3, 2017 at Highland Gospel Community, 3800 N. Clinton St. Fort Wayne.
