On Monday, October 24, 2022, Mary Louise (Singer) Shambaugh, 94, was swept away on the wings of angels to be with her Lord. She was born June 28, 1928, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of Helen and Elmer Singer, and sister of Calvin, who predeceases her.
Mary Louise graduated from Southside high school and Indiana University, before becoming an English teacher at Southside. She married Max P. Shambaugh, a World War II Eighth Air Force pilot in December of 1952. She predeceases their three children, Mark (Sandie) and Becky Shambaugh, and Cindy Armbruster (Greg). She was very active in her children’s lives and so proud of her five grandchildren, Nicole, Bryce, Morgen, Madison, and Sierra and five great grandchildren.
She volunteered over the years for many community activities, including as president of the American lung association, PTA, Psi Ote ,her church, studied and taught yoga for over 30 years, was a member of the US Senatorial committee, and loved reading of the history of our founding fathers. Her love of horses transcended to all of her granddaughters. She also loved traveling to so many parts of the world and meeting new people. Mary Louise embraced her life with a great sense of deep faith and spirituality. She loved all of her family, as that was most important to her, and family members cherished all the wonderful experiences and times together.
A funeral service to honor Mary Louise's life and legacy will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Towne House Retirement Community Chapel, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
