Leslie Neil Funk Jr., of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was 76 years of age when he joined our Heavenly Father, his beloved father (Leslie Funk Sr.), mother (Marlowe Funk), son (Scott Turner) and other loved ones on Monday, August 29, 2022.
Leslie graduated from New Haven High School in 1964. He was a former member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Minor in History. Leslie also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force and served for nearly ten years. He also had a second career at GTE Data Services retiring with Verizon at the age of 55.
Leslie was the most amazing, loving, and gracious gentleman (husband, father, grandfather (Peepaw), great grandfather, brother, and uncle) anyone would/could ever imagine/want. He enjoyed cooking (making donuts, sugar cookies, and fudge), spending time with family (especially his wife), playing games, such as: Battleship, Gin Rummy, and Euchre; running his Lionel model trains, flying kites, shooting off model rockets and water rockets, boat rides, fixing gadgets, and reveled in the peace and quiet/serenity of Atwood Lake.

Leslie is survived by his adoring wife of 51 years (Sandra Kay Funk); daughters, Sandy Kay (Kevin) Bougher, Christina Funk; and sons, Rich (Sondra) Turner, Leslie Funk III; granddaughters, Cassidy Bougher, Wyette Funk, and Adelaide Funk; grandsons, Greg Moyer and Zane Bougher; great-grandsons, Jace and Callen Moyer; sisters, Freya (Harry Sneed) Funk and Renee (Michael) Weber; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor Leslie's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, with Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Additionally, a calling will take place on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
