Jeffrey Edward Devall

Jeffrey Edward Devall, age 75, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed peacefully at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. Born in Effingham, IL on May 12, 1948, Jeff was raised in Greenup, IL by his parents Walter Merle and Bertha (Cunliffe) Devall.

After graduating from Cumberland High School in 1966, Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science in Automotive Engineering from Western Michigan University. He married his wife Michele in 1972, and later graduated with a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University. He began his engineering career with Borg Warner in Decatur, IL and retired as director of engineering from Hydro Gear in Sullivan, IL.

Jeff was passionate about traveling and explored many places with his wife over the years, including his favorite cities, Barcelona and Paris. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and woodworking, and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

After moving to Fort Wayne, Jeff and Michele joined St. Vincent de Paul Church, where they regularly attended Mass and prayed in the nearby perpetual adoration chapel, the Oratory of St. Mary Magdalene. Jeff was a very spiritual man whose prayer life deepened over the years, and we know he was welcomed with open arms into heaven.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Michele (Hall) Devall, of Fort Wayne; daughter, Nina (Stephen) Shannon of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Angela Shannon and Liam Shannon of Fort Wayne; and Grandson Zachery Devall of Paulding, OH. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; brother, David Devall; sister, Brenda Devall; and son, Jason Devall.

A private memorial service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church in Fort Wayne at saintv.org or the Myositis Association at myositis.org.
