Janice Madelyn Rodewald, 87, passed away September 28, 2024, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born October 21, 1936, in Fort Wayne, to the late Theodore Murle and Marcella (Weinmann) Lucia Hillyer. Janice attended St. John Lutheran School and graduated from South Side High School in 1954. She attended Capital University, in Columbus, Ohio from 1954-1956. In 1957 she received her A.B.A from Wartburg College of Waverly, Iowa. She earned her B.S. in Education from Indiana University, Fort Wayne campus in 1976.
Her teaching experience includes second grade at St. Paul, Waverley, Iowa; Nursery School at Bethany Lutheran church, Fort Wayne, and Kindergarten, first, third and fourth grades at St. John Lutheran Church School. Janice subbed for Fort Wayne Lutheran Schools for 15 years after retiring in 1998 after 28 total years as an educator.
She served St. John Lutheran Church congregation in various capacities, including Congregational Chairperson, Stewardship Secretary of A.L.C.W., Naomi-Ruth Circle President, choir member, Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. Janice was also the Stewardship Secretary of A.L.C.W. for the Northeast Indiana conference.
She is survived by her children, Julie Constant of Churubusco, IN; John (Susie) Rodewald of Fort Wayne, IN, Jodi (Cleveland) Inge of Ossian, IN and Jamie (Greg) Robbins of Fort Wayne IN. Janice is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, Craig Rodewald, Stephanie (Rodewald) Nikkel, Valerie (Constant) Campbell, Brian Rodewald, Austin Inge, Ashley Inge, Nicole (Constant) Johnson, Alyssa (Robbins) Copelan and Mikel Robbins; 17 great great-grandchildren, Haley (Rodewald) Workman, Chase Rodewald, Cayden Nikkel, Alexia Rodewald, Hannah Campbell, Madelyn Nikkel, Allyson Inge, Caleb Campbell, Anylah Inge-Rigsby, Corbyn Conwell, Anthony Inge, Emmaline Nikkel, Leyton Conwell. Ezra Johnson, Kacey Inge, Christopher Inge-Conwell and Emma Copeland. She was also blessed with one great great grandchild, Everly Workman.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 3, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church, 729 W. Washington Blvd., with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Wednesday October 2, 2024 at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
