Janet Elaine Darnell

Janet Elaine Darnell, age 87, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Golden Years Homestead in the arms of her beloved daughter. She was born September 7, 1937 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Leslie Myron and Mary Gladys (née Hurry) Abel.

Janet graduated from Muncie Central High School, Class of '55 and matriculated from Ball State School of Nursing, Class of '59. Her nursing career began in Muncie followed by Clearwater, Florida and ultimately Fort Wayne joining the Lutheran Hospital nursing staff. Following her retirement from Lutheran Hospital, she joined the Duemling Clinic where she would remain through their many incarnations, until her retirement from Indiana Surgical Specialists. Nursing was her life's passion and calling, caring for innumerable patients and families over her career.

Janet held many hobbies and interests including embroidery, floral gardening, ornithology and was a voracious reader, but cherished her time spent with dear friends the most. Faith was central to her life whether teaching Sunday School or interceding as a prayer warrior, she demonstrated Christ's love.

Janet is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Renee Lynn (Brian) Pickering of New Haven; cherished friends both near and far including Carlee Reed, Traci Reed, and Delee Purvis. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn (William) Long.

Private Services will be held at a later date. Interment at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
