Gordon D. Mattoon, 79, of Fort Wayne passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024. Gordon was born on January 5, 1945 in Woodsville, New Hampshire, but grew up in Bradford, Vermont; he was the son of the late Carroll and Mrytle (Blake) Mattoon. Gordon served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He earned an Associates Degree from Northampton Business College, Northampton, Massachusetts. He worked at John Hancock Insurance, Stellhorn Photo, and at Associated Churches. Gordon was a member at Faith Baptist Church, Fort Wayne and attended Calvary Baptist Church, Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He sang in the choir at the churches he attended for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Elks and American Legion. In his free time, Gordon enjoyed showing dogs, camping, lake activities, driving his little white Jeep Wrangler, volunteering at The Embassy Theater, and serving as a Boy Scout leader. Gordon was a snowbird, traveling to Lake Havasu City, Arizona for the past 12 years; there he served on the board of directors of the Snowbird Association at Islander RV Resort. He also served on the board of directors for the Yankee Park at Big Long Lake in Hudson, Indiana. Traveling to 47 states as well as many foreign countries was a proud accomplishment. Gordon was also very involved in HAM radio for more than 50 years, using the handle, WB9UBF. He was greatly loved by his family and friends. Surviving include his wife, Barbara Mattoon; son, James Mattoon; son-in-law, Aaron Smith; and granddaughter, Zoe Smith. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his daughter, Kristina Smith; and a sister, Roberta Jay. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on April 25, 2024 at Faith Baptist Church, 6600 Trier Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Fort Wayne, Calvary Baptist Church, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Donor's Choice, or Associated Churches.
