Frances M. Ponder, 79, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2011. She was born on February 11, 1932 to Thomas and Opal Viola (McElroy) Porter. She worked as a base operations technician and in maintenance for the Air National Guard. She served in the U.S. Air Force for 14 months before her National Guard service. She enjoyed working on her jigsaw puzzles, reading, apples, and collecting owls. Surviving family include children, Jim Borel of Fort Wayne, Dave Borel of Cary, N.C., Rob Borel of Fort Wayne, Anne (John) Parrot of Fort Wayne; brothers, Oliver (Julie) McElroy of Indianapolis, Thomas (Theresa) Woods of Shelbyville, IN; five grandchildren, David (Rachel), Adrienne, Melissa, Alyssa (Ryan), Aaron; and one great granddaughter, Ella. Also preceding her in passing was her husband, David Ponder.
A memorial gathering will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. A rosary service will be said at 12:30 pm.
