Dorothy was born on July 24th to Benedict and Luella Brames. She graduated from Central Catholic High School and began working at Neisner’s. There she met James A. Vevia Jr.; they married and raised their children in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic parish. She retired from North American Van Lines, enjoyed volunteering through the Fort Wayne Parks Dept, and forged countless bonds while tracing family genealogy.
She is best remembered as an inspiration to us all for her kind heart, endless generosity of time and a loving caregiver to family and neighbors. Her greatest joys in life revolved around family, her innocent humor was often in mispronounced words that we hold dear and is best known to many as, “Grandma the Great”.
Left to cherish the memories are her children Carol (Tom) Fanger, Karen Rossman, John (Marianne) Vevia, Cathy Stinefield, Mary (Larry) Keeling, Linda Robinson, Thomas (Lisa) Vevia, and Steven (Michelle) Vevia; siblings Lois (George) Neuhaus, Judith Lortie, Sharon (John) Fosnaugh, and Robert (Barbara) Brames; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Preceding Dorothy was her husband and daughter, Marie, parents, and siblings Thomas, Richard, Patricia, and Eugene.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd., Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Friday, April 14, 2023, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church or Stillwater Hospice.
