Dan came into this world November 20, 1949. He was the sixth child of seven born to Bill and Irene Stark. He attended Waynedale Elementary, then Kekionga and Elmhurst High. As a child he enjoyed playing with friends from Waynedale and participating in family activities. On Sundays, he attended Waynedale Methodist Church with his family.
Dan met his wife Molly February 8, 1975, on her birthday. They were introduced by friends that night, and Dan told his sister the next day that he was in love. His love for Molly continued to grow from that day forward. They were married September 15, 1979. It was a package deal that included Molly's son Matt, whom Dan grew to love as a son. Dan and Molly soon had two more sons, Ben and Danny, which completed their family. Dan and Molly were married for 32 years.
Dan loved his family. He said it was the one thing that he hated to leave behind. His anticipation of the birth of his grandsons kept him holding on even longer than anyone expected.
Dan was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. He ran his own business and employed several family members over the years. He was known as a perfectionist and a fine craftsman. He had an eye for quality and gave each detail careful thought. He was known to say that there was no perfection in this world, but his customers might disagree. They respected and trusted Dan, knowing that each job would be done to the best of his ability. Dan's boys, Ben and Dan, worked with their dad and have now taken over the business. They continue the fine quality of craftsmanship that was taught by their father.
Dan aquired a love for music listening to his father play his guitar and sing. Family sing-alongs were common at the Stark home. That love continued throughout his life and he gained an appreciation for all types of music. When he was in Hawaii with Molly a few years ago, he purchased a ukulele and taught himself to play. At first he was hesitant to play for others, but in time, gained the confidence to share his songs. Thanks Dan for blessing us with your music!
Dan enjoyed boating, fishing, and swimming. He loved relaxing by the water, be it a lake, the ocean, or a stream. The water provided a sense of peace and freedom.
Dan also enjoyed gardening. His flower garden was filled with bright colors and beautiful scents which attracted a variety of bees, butterflies, and humming birds. He weeded and cultivated around each plant with meticulous care, making the flowers thrive. Dan enjoyed sitting on the patio with family and friends where they could admire the flowers and watch the birds feed at the back-yard feeding station.
One of Dan's favorite activities was watching sports. He also enjoyed running and bicycling, keeping his body fit. Another pass-time was reading and researching local history. He loved croquet, and boasted that he was undefeated.
One of Dan's most noted characteristics was his sense of humor. He loved telling a story and making people laugh. Being around him was good medicine for those who were blessed to know him.
Dan's greatest passion was his love of God. He started each day with hours of meditation and tried to hold his focus on love throughout the day. He was affiliated with Inner Light Ministries and Brigade of Light.
Dan was a man of faith, dedication, and love. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
