Betty Jean Owens, 90, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, August 8, 2022 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on September 13, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sidney (Gibson) Smith. Betty graduated from Lindbloom High School in Chicago and went on to work in sales and distribution for the Charles A. Stevens & Company clothing manufacturers for over 20 years. She also worked at the Greater Niles Senior Center in Michigan until retirement. When not working, Betty enjoyed going to casinos and especially playing bingo, so much so, that she earned the nickname “Bingo Betty”. She was a wiz at large jigsaw puzzles and was a very good baker, especially known for her lemon bars. She loved being a grandma and was known as “Grandma Love” to both children and adults alike. Betty is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Williams; grandson, Russell B. (Tenisha) Clark; great-grandchildren, Nicole Stormy Clark, Rashanda Clark, Russell E. Clark, and Lawrence Betts. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and grandson Edmond (Terri) Clark. A funeral service for Betty will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 Saint Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46835 with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the Owens family can be left at www.hockemeyermillerfh.com.
