Betty J. Lafever, age 85, of Angola, Indiana passed away Friday, February 24, 2023. She was born June 21, 1937 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Herman C. and Anna Wiegmann and graduated from South Side High School, Class of '55. She met the love of her life, the late Neil Lafever and they wed Nov. 5, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. From this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Kim and Kitrina.
Prior to their relocation to Phoenix, Arizona, Betty served in various administrative positions with Doc Dancer, Lincoln National Bank, and Tec-Hackett; while there, she worked for Zellerbach and retired from SMC Pneumatics. Following their return to Indiana, she became a homemaker and loved serving as an Arabian horse groom for the family, bred German Shepherds for use by the military as well as civilian service animals. She enjoyed taking pontoon rides on Pleasant Lake, and playing bingo but cherished the time spent with family and friends the most. Betty was a woman of strong faith and served in various capacities and chaired numerous committees at Calvary Lutheran Church of Angola.
Surviving are her children, Kim (Ralph) Kugler of Pleasant Lake, Ind., and Kitrina (Glenn) Unverzagt of Columbia City, Ind.; grandchildren, Joshua (Maria) P. Kugler, Jeremiah J. (Laura) Kugler, and Collin C. (Anneliese) Unverzagt; great-grandchildren, Lily Unverzagt, Naomi Unverzagt, Zoey Unverzagt, Gwen Unverzagt, Jolene Unverzagt, Lincoln Kugler and Jubilee Kugler; siblings, Hilda Volmerding; sisters-in-law, Ruth Wiegmann and Madonna Wiegmann; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her siblings, Helmut Wiegmann, Harold Wiegmann, Herbert Wiegmann, and Hannah Marron; and grandchildren, Ross Unverzagt and Zane Unverzagt.
Celebration of Life is noon Saturday, March 11 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 Williams St., Angola, Ind. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the church.
