She enjoyed winters in Florida and camping in Northern Indiana in the summer. She played in the Fort Wayne Philharmonic at the age of 17.
Barbara was a lifetime member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Auxiliary with 50 years of service for the New Haven Adams Township Fire Department. She also retired as Women’s International Waterball Champion from 1997-2001. She grew up on a farm, moved to the city, but was always a little country.
Barbara was an avid Indiana University Basketball fan. She met her late husband, Dave Mason Sr., at an enjoyable evening of roller skating at Bells Rink. Barbara attended Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven. She worked for Hunts Rambler in the office and hard wholesalers. She then worked at Dennis Research.
She is survived by her children, George (Deb) Mason Jr. and Steven (Kelli) Mason, both of New Haven; grandchildren, Jacob Mason (Jen Bailey), Brittany Gerber, Ashley (Justin) Sarrazin, Courtney (Anthony) Ley, Kiersten (Ethan) Hess, Jackson Nichter, Bryce Mason, Paige Mason; great-grandchildren, Hallie Mason (Nick Jolley), Kailei Upton, Cameron Mason, Chloe Mason, Wyatt Gerber, Miles Sarrazin, Mason Sarrazin, Jade Sarrazin, Maverick Gerber, Ace Sarrazin; and one great-great-grandchild, Asher Mason.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Nina Scheerer, who passed away peacefully on January 6, 1968.
A visitation will be held at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46805, on September 30, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral will follow at 1:00 PM, with burial at Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in New Haven.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Central Fire & EMS or Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven.
