She was born December 9, 1938, in North Star, OH, to the late Earl “Jim” and Marie (Meiring) George and had resided in Ft. Wayne since 1965. Millie’s greatest joys were her family, friends, and faith. Millie married the late Don Harris on May 21, 1960. Don and Millie were married for over 50 years and raised three children together. Millie loved watching her grandchildren grow up, attending as many of their activities as possible, always ready with a bottle of bubbles, and often making them root beer floats for breakfast. Millie was a long-time member of St. Therese Catholic Church, where she was an active volunteer, a member of the Altar Society and the Small Faith Community. She met and prayed monthly with her Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) sisters for almost 39 years. In addition, she volunteered with the Girl Scouts, as a Cub Scout Den Leader, and at Lutheran Hospital in Pediatrics. Millie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #241. Millie retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools in 2001, spending most of her career as the Assistant Manager of the Elmhurst High School Cafeteria. In retirement, she wintered in Frostproof, FL, where she enjoyed going to bingo and bible study, walking with her sister Pat and friends, and riding her three-wheeled bicycle. Surviving are her children, Lynne (John) Giordano of Fairfax VA, George (Kim) Harris of Ft. Wayne IN, and Teresa (Kevin) Barjenbruch of Draper UT; grandchildren, CPT Brian Giordano of Amberg, Germany, Amy Giordano of Sterling, VA, Cody Harris of Ft. Wayne, IN, Logan (fiancée Olivia Barker) Harris of Iowa City, IA, Matthew Barjenbruch of Draper, UT, and Connor Barjenbruch of Holladay, UT; siblings, John George, Pat (Ray) Doss, Bill George, Dale (Diane) George, and Paul (Rose) George; and numerous adoring nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Evelyn Mann, Butch George, and Mike George. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on December 20 at 11:00 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Rd, Ft. Wayne, IN 46819 with 1 hour of visitation prior. Entombment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery. To keep everyone safe, the family kindly requests all attending wear masks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Therese Catholic Church Funeral Dinner fund or to St. Therese as an offering for a Mass in memory of Amelia Harris.
