Tony R. Beattie, age 74, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed peacefully June 13, 2015. Tony was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on February 19, 1941 to the late George Beattie Jr. and Zella (ZZ) Roberts Beattie.
A lifelong resident of Fort Smith, Tony was a CPA for 43 years. Tony spent most of his career as a partner with the firm Beall, Beattie and Thompson known today as Beall, Barclay and Company. He was well respected and loved by his co-workers and clients. His door was always open to give advice or just have a good laugh. As someone recently stated, “Nobody ever wanted to go see their CPA but they didn’t know Tony." Upon his retirement in June of 2006, the late mayor Ray Baker awarded Tony with the honor of two Tony Beattie days in Fort Smith to celebrate his contributions to the community.
Tony was raised in Fort Smith a few blocks away from the girl that would eventually become his wife of almost 52 years, Donna Peek. They married September 14, 1963 and raised two children together, not to mention the many dogs and horses that came into their life. A loving husband and father, Tony provided a home full of love, laughter and memories that will always be cherished.
Tony is survived by his loving family, wife Donna Beattie, son Mark Beattie, daughter Pamela Smith, son-n-law David T. Smith and his big brother George Beattie III and wife Carole. Tony also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Beattie Sr., Harriet Beattie and Kiba (Pie) Roberts.
The Family would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Feng and Dr. Walters and the entire neurosurgery team at UAMS as well as the many nurses that cared for him. We take comfort in the fact that he was in such good care during his illness. We wish to also thank Mercy Hospice for their comfort and care.
Known for his generosity, wisdom and humor, Tony was one of a kind, an inspiration to many and will be greatly missed.
