Ronald McKinley Yates, aged 75, of Fort Smith, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He first graced the world on February 1, 1948, in Fort Smith, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. He was very fond of his childhood living in New Mexico, where he grew up on a sawmill. He was also a proud graduate of Southside High School, class of 1967. In 1958, his spiritual journey commenced with his baptism at Mayhill Baptist Church, and he remained a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith.
Ronnie dedicated his entire professional life to the world of sales, initially venturing into the realm of sporting goods. However, the majority of his career was devoted to the field of manufacturing sales. Beyond his professional endeavors, his true enthusiasm revolved around Paint Horses, which he raised and raced since the late 1970s. In addition to his equestrian pursuits, Ronnie also served as a handicapper for Tulsa World and assumed the role of publisher for the Paint Horse Racing Review.
He is survived by his former spouse, Becky Taylor of Fort Smith; his daughter, Linsey Yates of Fort Smith; his son, along with his daughter-in-law and grandchildren, all residing in Austin, TX—Casey, Lexi, Hayes, and Hunter Yates; a sister, Patsy Burris (Danny) of Spiro, OK; and a brother, Donald Yates (Becky) of Huntington, AR.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Ronnie will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, followed by a reception in the Narthex hall at the church. Cremation arrangements are being handled with care by Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
