Lilburn Homer Still passed quietly in his sleep on July 29, 2016 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was 83. Homer was born on September 8, 1932 in Joplin, Missouri to his parents, Lilburn Joseph Still and Flossie Still.
He joined the Navy, then married Bonnie Jean Norman in 1955. They lived in Los Angeles County California until they moved to Central Oregon in the late 60’s. Homer became self-employed as a roofing contractor. They later relocated to Alaska before returning to the Arkansas/Oklahoma area. Homer worked in his last years in the trucking industry. He was quite a jokester and enjoyed having pets and telling stories of his time in the Navy.
Homer Still is survived by his four children, Sheryl Collette, Larry Still, Edie Lacey and Tracy Still; his three grandchildren, Michelle Lafontaine, Newly McCoin and Zachary Still; and his three great grandchildren, Mariah Benjamin, Michael Benjamin and Everett Benjamin. Homer was the oldest of seven children born to his parents and he is also survived by his baby sister, Libby Kowalski.
Services for Homer will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Still’s life. The family is gathering for a meal after the service.
