She was born to Edward and Nettie (Johnson) Miller on April 26, 1940 in Joplin, Missouri.
Judy moved with her family from Joplin to Fort Smith in 1940 and lived there until her death. She attended Fort Smith Junior College and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she met the love of her life, Larry Loux. They married on December 23, 1960 at First Christian Church in Fort Smith.
Judy always wanted to be a teacher and spent her 30 years teaching at Ramsey Junior High School. During her career as a teacher she co-sponsored Ramsey’s Junior Honor Society, was a Student Council sponsor and ran the canteen. She received the Christa McAuliffe Award for excellence in teaching and belonged to several professional organizations including Alpha Delta Kappa, Kappa Kappa Iota, Delta Kappa Gamma, Arkansas Education Association and the National Education Association. Judy, along with her husband, sponsored a National Leadership Camp on Lake Catherine for 15 years.
Upon retirement, Judy served on the Advisory Council of Education at UAFS, was a UAFS benefactor and established scholarships in the field of education at UAFS.
Judy was an avid Arkansas Razorbacks fan. She loved watching sports, especially football and basketball, and played golf with her sister for many years. She and her husband also enjoyed attending basketball and volleyball games at UAFS.
She is survived by one sister, Jeanette Loris of Fayetteville and one brother, Richard Miller of Sallisaw. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Virginia Patterson, Jessie Suhor, Jean Medlock and Hattie Miller, and brothers Harry Miller and Edward Miller.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Goddard United Methodist Church, where Judy was a member. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith. Family will greet friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Edge, Chuck Patterson, Ted Patterson, Tony Galier, Matt Perryman, Jennifer Perryman and Roger Goins.
Honorary Pallbearers are Richard Miller, Bill Spillers, Rick Pry, Chuck Stierwalt, Walter Rockwell and Dee Wresche.
