James Keith (Jim) McCoy, 81, of Fort Smith, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Jim was born on May 30, 1941 in Spring Valley, AR to the late Alvie and Myrle Phillips McCoy. He was of the Methodist faith. Jim started his career at Dixie Cup in Anaheim, California as a mechanic. Being a life learner, he moved to different positions and in 1981 he became the Quality Control Supervisor in the Fort Smith, Arkansas plant, where he worked until his retirement.
Jim married his high school sweetheart Susan (McGowan) McCoy in September of 1962. They raised a family (daughter Shelly and son Jim) and enjoy life together with many adventures. Jim loved being a grandfather to his 4 grandchildren, who lovingly called him Pop. They became his biggest blessing and he never missed a moment of their lives. He was anticipating the arrival of his first great grandson. Jim also enjoyed caring for his backyard birds and woodworking in his shop, where he made family and friends treasured gifts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Myrle McCoy, and sisters Joyce (McCoy) Rowe and Carolyn (McCoy) Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Susan, of the home; his daughter, Shelly McCoy Crenshaw (Scott) of Fort Smith; his son, Jim McCoy (Jacki), of Fort Smith; his sisters, Sandy Brinson (Gary), Janice Lawson (Douglas) and a brother, Phillip McCoy, all of Fayetteville, and a brother-in-law Michael McGowan (Barbara) of Hutchinson, KS. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Spencer Crenshaw (Kate), Sawyer Crenshaw (Chelsea), Mikayla Roberts (Josh) and Zane McCoy, along with a great grandchild, James Scott Crenshaw and many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as so many friends.
The family will have a Celebration of James’ Life at a later date.
