James Darwin Christy, 68, of Wister, OK, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, in Wister, OK. He was born August 1, 1945 in Fort Smith, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents David G. Christy and Letamae Christy. Jim served 35 years in the military, served his country in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. As a civilian he worked 25 years at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith as an RN. In retirement Jim helped start a dog/cat rescue in Poteau, OK. He loved his dog and cat children and they loved him. His greatest love was riding and spending time with his horses. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 12:00 Noon at Unite Church, 1940 Oakwood Street, in Spiro, OK with Pastor Matthew Sebo officiating. Burial will follow at National Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR with Full Military Honors under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, AR. He is survived by his wife Ramona, one daughter Jennifer Sebo and husband Matthew of Spiro, OK, one son James Christy of Los Angeles, CA, two sisters Jane Davies and husband Frank of Yorba Linda, CA and Eberley Simonson and husband Chuck of Eugene, OR, one brother David Christy of Keota, OK and one grandson Devin Christy of Los Angeles, CA. Pallbearers will be Tyson Greenmyer, Russell Mangum, Bobby Fletcher, Gary Thompson, Tommy Ross and J. T. Ross. The family will visit with friends Monday, June 23, 2014, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, AR. In lieu of flowers the family ask memorials be made to the Poteau Pound Pups, PO Box 1001, Shady Point, OK 74956 or any local rescue of choice in Jim’s memory.
