Horace Ward Marvin, 77, of Fort Smith died March 3, 2013 in Fort Smith. He was born November 4, 1934 to William Virgil Marvin and Delia Price in Mulberry, AR. His education includes Fort Smith High School, Westark Community College, and Arkansas Tech University. He was a retired Marine officer after 20 years including the Korean Conflict and two tours in Vietnam. After disability retirement, he devoted his life to caring for his family and friends, volunteering at St. Edward Hospital, and giving joy and countless hours to the church he loved, Faith United Methodist. He served as Chairman of the Board, belonged to the Searchers Sunday School Class, and was always involved and willing to serve in any capacity. He was also the founder of the Men’s Prayer Breakfast, which he steadfastly attended each Wednesday morning until his death. Despite years of ill health, he continued to embrace life with love, caring, and service to others and with God’s Grace, he was an example to all, and he fought valiantly with dignity and courage without complaint while never failing to nurture the family he loved.
He is survived by his wife Adrienne Johnson Marvin of the home; the couple would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on March 24, 2013; three sons and their wives. Eric and Lisa Marvin of St. Josephs, Michigan, Mark and Viki Marvin of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Craig and Sherrie Marvin of Van Buren, AR; eight grandchildren who filled his life with pride and joy, Nathan, Rene, Alan, Kendall, Megan, Allyson, Charlie, and Trent; and six great grandchildren who gave him a peak into the future, Brayden, Hunter, Dane, Maxim, Jude and Jackson; one brother and wife Ronald Marvin and Patty of Pocola, OK. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeff Marvin.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 10:30 AM in Faith United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. Services and Cremation are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
