Gordon was teaching at Van Buren High School when I was hired as the High School Principal. He was a truly dedicated teacher, mentor to students, and a fine man. I cherish the memory of our time together at VBHS. God bless his family and friends who remain here on this earth.

He was a very good teacher and friend to all students he came in contact with.I am sure that will be evident from the outpouring of his former students. He will truly be missed and I send my you my heartfelt gratitude that I was lucky to have known him at VBHS.

Mr. Yearty was a huge influence on my life. I so enjoyed his class and his personal stories, I consider him to have been an influence in my career decision. I know many students enjoyed his classes. I shall always treasure the memories and what he wrote in my yearbook.

I will always remember Mr. Yearty for his humility, sense of humor and caring for his students. I only wish I had been mature enough to appreciate him while I was a student at Van Buren High School from 72-75. May God Bless You, Mr. Yearty.

I was a student in Mr. Yearty's back in 1975. What a really fine teacher and clearly a fine person. He always encouraged class discussion of the topics we covered, instead of merely repeating the standard lines, or pontificating. In those 20 years of teaching I am sure hundreds if not thousands of students were positively influenced by his mentoring. So, while I am sure he will be missed, through his work he lives on.

I remember Mr. Yearty ceing a very caring teacher. He was a favorite, we all wanted to have Mr. Yearty! Enjoy your reward, Mr. Yearty!

Always liked and enjoyed being around Mr. Yearty and a great teacher he was.

I was fortunate to have had Mr. Yearty for World Affairs many years ago & equally fortunate to have seen him in more recent times. He was a remarkable teacher who encouraged us to look beyond our small town borders & familiar ways of thinking. I will remember Mr. Yearty fondly & pray for his eternal rest. My sincere condolences to his family & countless others who called him friend.

A wonderful man and teacher will be truly missed. He was a great influence to many of us at Van Buren High School. He made the classroom come alive with his teaching methods. My prayers go out to his family.

I will always remember Mr. Yearty as one of the best teachers ever. After graduation and four years in the U.S. Air Force, I returned to the Van Buren area and joined the Fort Smith Police Department. While on patrol, I would drop by his home on the northside from time to time and he always welcomed me as though I was family. We shared stories about our military lives and the class of l964 at Van Buren High School. He was a great man and a hero to many. He is now one of God's chosen angels. We will all miss him but will see him again someday. May God bless his family and friends.

Mr Yearty was my social studie teacher at Van Buren High in 1969. He was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful man. He loved his family and spoke of them from time to time and he loved his wife,Gennievie. I remember he spoke of her quite often. He wrote in my senior annual and I always cherrished what he wrote. I know he will be greatly missed.

May God bless the family during this time of sorrow and loss. We pray that the temporary separation will draw us closer to God so that the glorious reunion in heaven someday will be sweet.

Mr. Yearty was truly one of a kind. I remember well the laughter in his classroom, and the passion he had for teaching. I learned a lot from him my senior year. He will be missed.

Mr Yearty was a wonderful teacher who influenced my life. I had been a straight A student until I took geometry. I thought my world had fallen apart. Then I took Social Studies with Mr. Yearty and I realized I had a gift for understanding the world not in the mathematical way, but in a social way. I have since gone on to earn my masters in social work. I hope he knew how much his pleasant and wonderful manner helped this one student regain the confidence to go forward. To the family of Mr. Yearty: He was an excellent man and teacher. Mr. Yearty was instrumental in my love for politics and government. I was asking about him not long ago at our 40th class reunion, as in the past he attended our reunions. Nobody had heard from him in a while. He will be missed by many students and friends. Mr. Yearty, "Flash" was my beloved World Affairs teacher in high school. He was an excellent teacher but he was much more than a teacher. He inspired and was a friend. I will always remember him with heart felt fondness.

Gordon was a good man, and I enjoyed talking with him many years ago, as I did repair work on the home built by William J Murphy. Mr. Murphy was my wife's great-grandfather. We enjoyed talking of the history of the house, and explored all its fascinating features. Gordon loved the history of the place! He took great pride in restoring it to its former condition, and preserving the history of it. I am glad to have known Gordon and his wife.

Mr Yearty was one teacher I admired very much.Not only did he make social study fun he taught me how important to understand our society. I was not a great student but I earned A's and B's because I enjoyed being in his class. He taught me more than he would ever know. To this day not many people can't compete with me in the History or social studies. He was a Kind and gentle man. He was love by all of his students. He made VBHS a better place. Mr yearty has gone home. My you rest in peace.

Mr Yearty wasn't just my teacher. He made a difference in my life. I am proud to say he was my friend. Peace be with his family.

Mr. Yearty "Flash" as a lot of knew him was one of the best TEACHERS I had in all my schooling. He made his class very interesting and students wanted to learn from him. He will be missed a lot. May God bless and comfort his family during this time. Sincerely, Tom Love

To Mr.Yeartys family: I had the pleasure of visiting with Mr Yearty weekly and sometimes daily over the past year as his home health nurse, I never viewed him as a patient but as a friend who had many many great stories,memories, and jokes. He was such an intelligent man with a big heart. Mentally, he never missed a lick,he told me his family had the genes of a sea turtle and he would probably live forever but that he was so tired and weary. I will miss my friend. Rest in peace.

Bill was a great man. He always treated me with kindness and respect. He had great stories to share, whether it was about teaching, WWII, or just the life he had lived for 89 years. He had a kind soul and it was an honor to know him, if only for a while.
