Edgar (Jake) Stratmann, age 82, of the Liberty Community near Roland, Oklahoma, went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, January 22, 2023. He was born in Yorktown, TX, to Edgar William and Sonja Stratmann. After graduating from Yorktown High School in 1959, he joined the U. S. Army in July 1960. He served two years in the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lightning, at Schofield Barracks, HI. His last assignment was Fort Chaffee, AR, where he was honorably discharged in July 1963. While at Fort Chaffee, he met Joan Beegle. They were married in August 1963.
Jake retired from Swift Independent Meat Company after eighteen years. After retiring, he was a bus driver for Liberty School for eighteen years. He spent several years coaching the Roland Little League baseball team, and the Roland girls softball team at Andrews Field in Fort Smith.
Jake enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He loved telling stories to his grandchildren, had a great sense of humor and an easy smile. He and Joan enjoyed country and western dancing. Jake was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Fort Smith and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion Post 339 of Roland, OK, where he served as Post Commander from 2001-2018.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Carroll Jeffrey, of Yorktown, a sister, Theresa Bowles of Seguin, TX, grandchildren Brett Stratmann and Keira Stratmann.
Survivors are cherished family: Wife, Joan Stratmann; daughter, Suzanne Hooks (Terry) of Gunter, TX; son, Jason Stratmann (Tina) of Muldrow; grandchildren Elizabeth Hooks and Ryan Hooks, Eryn Pool (Adam), Jenny Judd (Jonah), and Sarah Camryn, Natalie, Will, Jasey, Mallory, Zakk, Reese, and Blakely Stratmann of Muldrow. Sisters are Gwenn Wolf (Dougie) of Cuero, TX, and Wanda Styra (Charles) of Yorktown; and a brother, Rodney (Kathy) of Victoria, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 26, at Edwards Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Burial with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m.at the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post 339 of Roland. All services are in Fort Smith, AR.
