Dorothy was born on November 16, 1924 in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Dr. Isaac Alexander Bigger Jr. and Beatrice Emily Haslam. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Barbara Norvell Bigger (George) Reahm of Ocala, FL, and her younger sister Edith Millicent Bigger (Claude) Coleman of Charlottesville, VA.
Dorothy married the late Jack E Grober on December 27, 1947 and moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas where three children were born from this union, Barbara Bigger Grober (Ed) Lucas of Ormond Beach, FL, Emily Davis Grober (Pat) Long of Fifty Lakes, MN, and Jack E. Grober Jr. of Bella Vista, AR.
Dorothy’s commitment to others is reflected in her favorite Bible verse Ruth 1:16, “Do not urge me to leave you or to turn from following you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” Dorothy earned a RN degree at the age of 52. She retired from Sparks Regional Medical Center, Fort Smith, where she worked nursery and postpartum for 20 years. Dorothy was an active volunteer in her retirement community of Diamond City, AR. Even in her nineties she assisted with meals on wheels and other community needs, and in 2016, at the age of 92, was recognized as Diamond City’s “Volunteer of the Year.” Dorothy was an active member of Bella Vista Lutheran Church and is dearly loved by her brothers and sisters in Christ.
