David Fields, 98, of Mount Vernon, Missouri, passed away peacefully with family present on February 8, 2024. He was born in Mansfield, Arkansas in 1925 to J. B. (Sam) and May Fields, but spent most of his childhood in Heavener, Oklahoma. David turned 18 on May 25, 1943, and by early July of that year was serving in the Army. He enjoyed golf and fishing, providing the fish for many church fish fries.
David was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Jimmie Nell, and is survived by his son, Mike and daughter-in-law, Lori, of Springfield, Missouri, granddaughter Mindy Ellis of Fort Smith, grandsons Corey Fields of Dallas, Texas and Matthew Fields of Springfield, Missouri, 9 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson.
PFC David Fields served in the Army in World War II in Engineers, Infantry and MP areas. He served in both Europe and the Pacific and was discharged honorably following the end of the War.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 13th at 10:00 am at the pavilion at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
