July 21, 1958 – March 18, 2023
It is with profound sadness that the family of Brian Kurt Muir share the news that he passed away on March 18, 2023. Brian is survived by his mother Shirley Muir, his three sisters Pat (Jack), Cheryl (Dave), and Kim. He also leaves his seven nieces Elisa, Stacey, Candice, Andrea, Tamara, Kyla and Tanya and many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Wally; and his nephew Justin. He also leaves behind his Uncle Dan Doucette of Kelowna, B.C., and his Aunts Carol Cauvin of Kelowna, B.C., and Janiece Krobutschek of Red Deer Alberta. Brian was born in Zweibrucken, Germany on July 21, 1958. He lived most of his life in Fort Saskatchewan; and his final years in Camrose. In his 64 years, he became a friend to many and was known to cross every bridge and challenge with tremendous grace and dignity. Anyone who knew him would say “he did not waste one minute of feeling sorry for himself.” His favourite saying and daily response to anyone who asked “how are you?” was “I complained that I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.” He truly lived these words and embraced each day with kindness and consideration – no matter what challenges the day would bring. He also possessed a fun-loving sense of humour with clear intention to make each person around him smile.
Though he would never want to be defined by disability or illness, it bears mentioning, as there is no other way to explain the power of his life. Brian was 18 years old when he sustained a brain injury from a car accident causing hemiplegia; and was 54 when a medical incident exacerbated his brain injury causing short-term memory loss and paraplegia. In November 2020 he was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma; managed chemotherapy and radiation treatment like a champion; was in remission for one year when the cancer returned in October 2022. His work on this earth- was to be a teacher and the Lesson was Love. He will be remembered for his tremendous spirit, ridiculous sense of humour and genuine regard for everyone he encountered. His body was so very broken but his heart and his spirit were so very strong and brilliant. We will miss him but we imagine he is dancing with angels, telling them jokes to make them laugh and then going for a walk with his dad and nephew. Brian had a strong faith. He believed in Eternal Life. We thank God for his years on earth and the love and joy he gave us. We all appreciate the time and love bestowed on Brian by Kim who was with him for every medical procedure and was at his side to the last moment. She was his angel on earth.
