Doreen Kathleen Brennan (nee Bruce), the only daughter of George and Esther Bruce, was born on October 4, 1939 in Kelliher. She grew up on a farm 6 miles south of Kelliher and received her education in Garnock and Kelliher Schools. She worked at Kunitz Cafe for a few months until she took a cashier’s job in the new Co-op which opened in 1960.
In 1961 she met the love of her life, Alastair Brennan. They married on August 31,1963 and lived in Kelliher, where they started their family. David Lorne was born on December 22, 1963 and Leann Elizabeth was born on November 7,1965. After their move to Colonsay, Carole Annette was born on September 1, 1967. They lived there for the next year and half until moving to Esterhazy for the next six months. They then moved to Ituna in 1969 and Allan George was born on March 7, 1970. Doreen and Alastair resided in Ituna until moving to Fort Qu’Appelle in October 2022.
Doreen was predeceased by her parents George and Esther Bruce; mother-in-law Mary Brennan; son-in-law Wayne Hubick and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her husband Alastair; her children: David (Marcie), Leann (Jayson), Carole (Shannon) and Allan; seven grandchildren: Kimberly (Brendan), Ryan (Miranda), Kyle (Ashley), Jade (Avery), Haley (Travis), Tyler (Carmen) and Logan (Hailey). She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Aden, Sylas, Roman, Callum, Renley, Cecilia and three more joining the family very soon. Doreen is also survived by her brothers Gordon (Marcia) and Gerald (Bev); her brother-in-law Dale (Joyce); her sister-in-law Audrey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doreen most enjoyed being around her family and hosted many large holiday celebrations. There was always food available at all hours of the day, whether it be a large turkey dinner or her famous green cornflake cookies and rice crispy cake. She never wanted to miss out on the celebration and was always the last to go to bed.
Doreen will be missed by all who knew her, whether it be family, old friends or new friends she had recently made.
The funeral service was held in St. Andrew’s United Church in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jo Mader. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
