He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beatrice Cooper. He is also survived by his sister, Constance Hall of Wesley Chapel FL, his three children, Cheryl Cooper of Port Saint Lucie; Sharon Klippstein of Jacksonville, FL and James L. Cooper Jr. of Fort Pierce, FL; three grandchildren, Stacey, Stephanie, Katarina and three great grandchildren.
He began his career as an Engineer before moving to Florida and joining the newly developing cable TV industry. He was a pioneer in the cable TV industry introducing many new and innovative products and served as President & CEO of several companies. Prior to his retirement, he directed the development of telecommunications systems throughout Micronesia, including the islands of Guam, Saipan, Rota, Tinian and the Marshall Islands. He was a veteran of the Army Security Agency and served during the Korean War.
Following retirement, he served on the board of several telecommunication and private equity companies.
He was active in many civic and trade associations serving as President and Chairman of Florida Cable Telecommunications Association, President of Chamber of Commerce, President of Kiwanis, Treasurer of Saint Vincent de Paul. Jim was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed tennis, golf and fishing.
He also loved to travel and meet new people. He was of the Catholic faith, lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fort Pierce, Florida.
