Floyd James Chapman, 94, of Fort Pierce, Florida peacefully passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021. He was born in Weston, West Virginia in 1927 to the late Gilbert Chapman and Retta (nee Hines) Chapman, spent his childhood living near Webster Springs. Floyd was passionate about his country and proud of his service in both the Army and the Navy. He was particularly proud of his service in the Army during World War II where he served as a Scout with the 45th Infantry Division during the invasion of Italy at Anzio Beach. Following the war, he enlisted in the Navy where he was assigned to a Destroyer Tender operating in the Pacific Ocean. After his enlistment, he returned to Webster Springs WV where for many years, he worked as a coal miner while raising a family. In 1959 he moved his family to Medina Ohio where he worked at Permold, Inc., for 30 years, beginning as a general laborer and ultimately retiring as the supervisor of two departments. A few years following his retirement he and his second family permanently relocated to Fort Pierce.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, sister Mabel, wife Rita and stepdaughter Patricia (O’ Brien). Surviving are his children, Brenda, Rodney, Delbert (Andrea), James (Mary Beth), Marilyn, and stepdaughter Lynn (Dale); 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Faith United Fellowship, Vero Beach, FL, with Pastor Cheryl Hine officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
