Marvelous Mommy Edese - 

I still love you to pieces, and I will for the rest of my life.  I miss you a lot right now, but I look forward to being with you in Heaven, by God's grace and mercy, when the good Lord calls me home.

You have touched my life in unforgettable ways. You have forever changed my life by bringing into this world the most awesome, most caring, and most considerate person whose love has brought me exceptional joy and the precious gift of motherhood. You have touched my heart at its deepest depth when, upon the births of Senghor and Zurie, you have traveled to California to bond with them, to get to know them, and to care for them with great attention and love. You have continued to extend grandmotherly love to Senghor and Zurie with yearly birthday cards and gifts, even in the years when you were all the way in Haiti.  I am certain Senghor and Zurie will dearly miss your birthday presents they have so cherished and looked forward to, year after year.  While you will be profoundly missed by them and all who have known you for your kindness, generosity, and unique warmth; I am very appreciative that Senghor and Zurie have been touched by your kind heart and presence, just like I have. 
Rest in peace and may heaven welcome you with open arms.

Mme Luc, Edese  (our stepmother/adoptive mother)was working as a living housekeeper when I and my brother Jean Raynold  first came to the US
 I was still in high school I stayed for 2 weeks and spent most of those  2 weeks at her work place which was a big house with 7 bathrooms and more than 10 rooms to clean. 
After I went back to Haiti  I  started to think about how difficult her life was. She was there in a cold country , in an isolated place  ,noone to have  a conversation with ,no phone ,no whatsapp  or internet  at that time, all her family was in Haiti, no creole or French Channel on the small TV in her room.
The only thing she had that gave her strength and comfort was her bible and her chant d'esperance.  She would sing while working. 
She accomplished a lot with that job. 
 Because of her perseverance her hard work ,our father's persuasion and God's help, she was able to send for all of us to live in the US.
Now all of us and  grandchildren  are all college Grads.
She was  sometimes a controlling person , but that was not always a bad thing It was  a good incentive for everyone of us to finish college so we can be independent of her.
Thank you for all the work you have done.
To my brothers and sisters who were there with her and who took many trips to be with her you did an outstanding  job taking care of her till the end 
May she rest in internal peace.
She will be missed.
