A resident of Vero Beach since 1961, Betty Wright Khail died peacefully on November 24, 2016. Betty was born Betty Jean Wright on April 28, 1925 in Nashville, Tennessee, and she met the great love of her life, Sergeant Veron W. Khail Sr.at a USO dance in Bartow, Florida in 1943. They were married 67 years until Vernon's death in 2010.
Prior to retirement, Betty worked at a number of positions for Indian River County, including more than 20 years for the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. Aside from her family, Betty's lifelong passion was the Democratic Party, even serving as President of the Democratic Women's Club of Indian River County.
She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Sanchez of Charlotte, NC, her brother Sherman Hendry of Brandon, FL, two sons Chris Khail and Vernon Khail, Jr., both of Vero Beach, FL, and by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter, Katina Khail Novak.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, December 1st, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 475 43rd Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32968. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the VNA Hospice at 1110 35th Lane Vero Beach, FL 32960.
