Raymond B. Knight, June 19, 1935 - October 5, 2024, started his 89-year life adventure on Ram Island, Southampton, New York. The family moved to Oyster Bay, LI where he attended Oyster Bay High School, Class of 1953. He enlisted in the US Army and stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Chaffee, AR from 1954-56. When he returned home, he attended C.W. Post College but soon realized he was blessed with the God given talent to work with his creative hands.
With well-known patrons as his earlier supporters, he started his 60-year career in fine antique restoration and conservation. Raymond B. Knight Antiques and Restoration began in Locust Valley, New York. His knowledge and expertise were sought out by fine collectors, public institutions, and prominent art museums. He soon became a premiere antiques dealer and consultant and along with his wife Diane exhibited at prestigious Antique Shows around the country.
Always kind and giving, Ray mentored many young craftsmen and women who worked alongside him. He was always thrilled to see them step out on their own and succeed.
His second act was on Sanibel Island at Sanibel Home Furnishings.
Oh, how he just loved greeting, meeting, and showing everyone around.
Asked if he would retire someday, his response was always "From What"?
Golfing on Sanibel Island at The Sanctuary Golf Club or Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, New York, Sailing on the waters of the Long Island Sound, Gardening at home and always being the last one to leave the dance floor made his life perfect.
Ray passed away peacefully at home alongside his wife Diane, 52 years together of love, happiness, and laughter, 24/7, partners in everything. His love for Diane was matched only by his love and pride for his children. He is survived by his son Carl R. Knight of Sanibel Florida and daughter the late Karen M. Knight, nieces and nephews and loving family friends. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Hauser and twin brother Leslie Knight.
A Memorial Service will be held in Locust Valley, NY, and Sanibel FL at a later date.
