He was preceded in death by his parents Faustino Herrera and Julia Contreras; spouse of 35 years, Elaine Scullen; son Keith Herrera and brothers Gilbert Larrumbide, Richard Larrumbide and Victor Larrumbide.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Herrera of nearly 22 years; children: Kirk Herrera, Jennifer Herrera, Dana Herrera, Heather (Eddy Barrios) Herrera-Barrios; stepchildren: Ralph Gomez, Jacqueline (Tim Ciancio) Gomez and Timothy (Tara Gustafson) Gomez; grandchildren: Alexis Bhola, Jordan Sahadeo, Ayden Wolfe, Dianelys Roush, Taylor Meisenzahl, Christian Meisenzahl, Janessa Clark, Jordan Hardy, Jaylynn Hardy, Jayvonna Hardy, Kristin Pryzmocki, Michael Herrera, Kristy Herrera, Karen Herrera, Tara Herrera, Keith Herrera Jr., Stephen Herrera, Jasper Gomez, Emma Gomez, Kenneth Gomez, Jordi Gomez, Michelle Gomez and Natalia Gomez; 19 great grandchildren; siblings: Alice (Roy) Montez, brother-in-law John (Nilda) Cardona, sisters-in-law: Anna (Mike) Ferrer, Maria (David) Fernandez, Noemi (Jerry) Breshin Cardona and Betty Cardona and many nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues & friends.
Nano received the nickname “Tex” during his military service. He spent over 25 years with Eastman Kodak Company, beginning in maintenance. He retired as the Supervisor of Distribution and was a keynote speaker at Kodak Company conventions around the US. He enjoyed playing and coaching baseball during his early years in San Antonio, TX & New York City, playing tennis and attending matches in his middle years and working out at the gym during his retirement. He loved a good party, telling stories and was always quick with a joke.
Nano’s military carrier started in the Army Air Force from 1946-1947 during WWII stationed in Chanute Field, IL at the rank of Private. He then joined the US Coast Guard from 1950-1953 during the Korean War where he served on U.S.C.G.C. Campbell with the rank of Boatswains mate. He qualified as a marksman.
A visitation for Nano will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Heart Association.
