He was born on September 7, 1933 in Monterrey, Mexico. He married the love of his life, Margarita Cabrera (1933-2018) in 1953 and shortly after they moved to Texas. Jose and his young family moved to Immokalee, Florida in 1968. Later on as his family grew in the 90s, Jose and Margarita moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida to be close to family.
Jose was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. He loved to read, watch western movies, M.A.S.H., Gilligan's Island, Lawrence Welk, and the Andy Griffith Show.
Jose, the youngest of seven siblings, has one remaining brother, Rodolfo Cabrera, in California.
Jose is survived by his four children, Severa Rita Cabrera, Jose Jr. (Janie) Cabrera, Gerardo (Leticia) Cabrera, Martha (Eliceo Jr.) Soto; twelve grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jose was truly blessed to have a large family.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as his pallbearers will be his eight grandsons; Jose Cabrera III, Gerardo Cabrera, Gabriel Cabrera, Richard Cabrera, Jerry Cabrera, Ernesto Cabrera, Eric Cabrera, Jose Noah Cardenas, and his youngest granddaughter Micaela Soto, who will take her late brother's place, Eliceo Emmanuel Soto III (1994-2020).
A celebration of life and visitation for Jose will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2514 Lee Boulevard, Lehigh Acres, FL 33971. A graveside service will occur Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913.
