Dr Jay S. Thompson (78) passed away on September 7, 2016 survived by his wife C. Ann Thompson of 29 years and children: Jeffery Wayne Thompson, Heather Renee Tweit (deceased), Jay Sheldon Jr (Judith), Kaaren Dawn Thompson (Bethany), Michael Thomas Bryden, and 11 grandchildren, and brother Charles Thompson (Sue).
Jay attended Dennison University and achieved the degree of Doctor of Medicine from St. Louis University. He was a practicing Radiologist for over thirty years with Sachs Ross and Associates. Long time resident of Aurora, OH and Fort Myers, Florida.
He will be remembered for his participation in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Celebrating 48 years of uninterrupted sobriety, he was an active member of A.A. Jay served as a Consultant with the Ohio State Medical Associations Impaired Physicians Program and founded Ohio Doctors in A.A. He served as a sponsor and support for many individuals to also find the pathway of sobriety through A.A. As the author of the booklet The Chemically Dependent, he was a popular featured speaker to local Cleveland and Akron schools to help teachers and administrators identify adolescents at risk.
He was an avid reader, avid fisherman, jigsaw puzzle collector, storyteller, amateur magician and lover of music and theater arts. As an active community theater participant he performed in many productions such as Brigadoon, Music Man, Oliver, The Rainmaker, Kiss Me Kate, and Oklahoma.
