Sue was born September 12, 1947 to parents Arvel “Nick” Nichols, and Mary “Louise” Nichols. She attended Hendersonville High School and had two older brothers, Charles and Frank. She attended Western Carolina Teaching College, now Western Carolina University, in Cullowhee, NC. She then moved to Charlotte, NC, where she met Allan “Phil” McCorkle, moved to Miami, finally settling in Fort Myers, Florida, in 1976. Sue and Phil loved boating, cruising, and fishing. Sue was a smart, intelligent business woman who spent most of her career in banking but later migrated her career to radio and television sales. She was also an avid seamstress and loved to crochet for her family. She loved the arts, specifically the theater.
Sue is survived by husband, Michael Tipton; her daughter, Bridget McCorkle Plank, 51; two grandchildren, Ryleigh Elizabeth Plank (20), and Rhiannon Daniele Plank (18); and her brother Charles Myers (Dee). She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Curt Myers, Holly Myers, Dane Myers, and Jessica Myers. She was preceded in death by husband of 37 years, Phil McCorkle, and her brother, Frank Myers.
