Oscar Luis Castro

Oscar Luis Castro Fallas was born in a small town called Jorco de Aserri, just outside of San Jose Costa Rica. He was the second child of eight for Requier Castro Prado and Luzberta Fallas Duran. Oscar was predeceased by two of his bothers, Alvaro Castro, and Edgar Castro, but is survived by his remaining siblings, nieces, nephews and his beloved wife Anne McManus-Castro and son James Coady Castro. He was a dedicated husband and father.

Oscar started working early in life at age thirteen years old on the family coffee plantation. He planted, picked, carried, and drove coffee to the cooperative. He also worked for the national government as a surveyor for many years, and always played soccer in his spare time. He came to the United States in the early 1980’s. Oscar worked for Alamo Rent A Car for twenty-five years, and the Broward School Board for ten years before retiring. He married Anne McManus in 1988 and they had their son James Coady Castro in 2000.

Oscar always had a smile on his face and a helping hand for everyone! Family, friends, neighbors, and strangers did not matter, he was always willing to assist anyone who needed it. While living in Dania Beach for thirty years, local law enforcement, knowing Oscar and his mechanical skills, used to bring people who broke down on the interstate to our home, so Oscar could fix their car for free and get them back on the road home. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, owning a few bikes in his life as well as muscle cars, specifically the Ford Mustang! Few speeding tickets, but he was never arrested. He traveled extensively in the United States and Costa Rica.

His greatest achievement was his son James Castro, of whom he was very proud and who he took care of from the moment he was born. All will miss his energy and infectious personality.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to a charity. Oscar suffered from end stage kidney disease and has been receiving dialysis for the past several years. While dialysis can keep one alive, it is a very difficult treatment to endure. The family will honor Oscar's Life in a private gathering.
