In memory of my grandmother Maria Luisa. 
I wanted to share a memory from my childhood when I spent time with her while she was visiting us. I remember she loved knitting, visiting museums and other recreational places, eating and playing cards. She was teaching me how to knit too. 
We will miss you grandmother and may you rest in peace in heaven.

Mami Luchi my 2nd Mom that raised me until I was old enough to be shipped to America. You had a lust for life, eating, going on adventures, love for family, all traits you instilled in me. I am a better, richer person because I had you in my life and as a grandmother. In your last years you were surrounded by so much love from Gloria  & the.  Patrick and their families.  Seeing you laugh and dance and enjoy family that truly loved you filled my heart with happiness. Sending you birthday wishes for your 106th birthday in heaven. We love you. 

We will never forget you Mami Luchi! Thank you for teaching us how to play dominos and for playing our Pirate game with us!

Mama Luchi was everybody’s grandma. She welcomed everyone into the family and even the neighborhood kids loved her as their grandma.  As kids in Ecuador we always remember her making us great meals and wonderful jugitos. And how she protected the nata (milk cream) for Papa Berto but we always snuck in when she wasn’t looking. We will always love and miss her. 
Love Norma, Diane Alfredo, Gigi, Tom, Mimi, Becky, Nicole, Yvonne, Maddie and Cerina.

My grandmother was one of the biggest influences in shaping my life.  But I lost her and my mother too early.  Then I met Gigi and got to know her family, and Gloria and Mama Luchita became my mother and grandmother.  They did the things that mothers and grandmothers do.  They gather the family.  They ask after your well being.  They make you food.  They are especially interested in how your children are doing.  They are the glue that keep us together.  Mother’s and grandmother’s make you feel like the kids we once were.  It’s sad that Mama is gone, but she had a long full life, and I think of Gloria and Ligia and Mama reunited, with other family that have passed too.  God bless Mama’s soul.

Mama Luchi as we referred to our grandmother, always had a kind word, a smile and always offered a blessing anytime we had contact with her. She had some wonderful stories of her children when they were growing up in La Vicentina, a suburb of Quito. She would laugh when she would remember a funny line that would come out of the mouths of her growing children or any mischievous behavior. We enjoyed hearing all her stories.  We remember her as always wanting to be included in everything.  She loved traveling, eating, knitting, reading, playing cards ( she was a card shark!) or watching her novellas. When we were younger visiting her in Quito she loved to cook for us and we were always happy to be there, as it was  always a great time and  an adventure! We were sometimes trouble makers but she always took that in stride and loved all her grandchildren regardless.
Friends and people who just met her or who didn’t know her well were always mesmerized by her  alertness, and youthfulness and they would hug her hoping to get her youthful elixir or secret!
Mama Luchi we will miss you but we will remember you always and do think of you often. I am happy that she will now be with Papa Berto, my beautiful mother Gloria, my aunt Ligia and her younger son Fabian and be able to enjoy each other’s company once again.
